How to travel in Kochi without hiring a Taxi?

tourism_cochinconnects_cochin

Wondering how you can travel in a fairly new location without hiring a taxi? Let me guide you on a budget tour of Kerala where you can travel to many places without having to hire a taxi. This can be an interesting theme for Kerala packages as there’s a lot of adventure and surprise elements attached to it. Since Kerala has a wide network of a public transport system that includes buses owned by the government and private parties and auto rickshaws plying to most of the popular locations. In fact, you can start boycotting the white taxis as soon as you land in Kochi International Airport. Though the airport taxis offer very good service at a reasonable rate, you can give them a miss and take the low-floor a/c or non-a/c buses that ply to Aluva and Kochi from there. Once in Kochi, you can take an auto to your desired hotel and from there also you can plan your travel without a taxi. Let us have a look at the places you can visit in Kerala without hiring a taxi! Travel light during your Kerala tourism packages or else you will have a little trouble hoping between the destinations without a car. You need a small notebook or a writing pad to note down the bus details and destination names as remembering the names can be a little tricky in this otherwise friendly language. Get yourself a GPS enabled phone and mark the location of your hotel to make sure you reach back to your hotel safe and sound. Keep some change or else you will end up either paying more to the autos and buses or fighting with them for the change! You can ask for change at your hotel reception or travel desk. There’s one more way to roam around in Kerala and that’s by hiring a bicycle. Many tourists do that in their tour packages in Kerala and your tour operator can help you find the cycle of your choice to hire. Between the districts, you can travel by train also which is faster and sometimes cheaper also.

Day 1 in Kochi without a Taxi

 banner4

Travelling in Kochi without a taxi is very easy. One issue most of the tourists face is that the buses here do not have a number. Instead, the destinations are written in the local language, which, a majority of the people, even the young locals, cannot read! You can either get someone to write your destination in the local language and compare it with what is written or ask the bus conductor whether it goes to your intended destination. You can ride an auto rickshaw anytime in Kochi. It may turn out to be an adventure ride in your Kerala tour packages. But many of them are reluctant to travel through crowded roads, especially during the peak time. Moreover, the autos in Kochi rarely run on a meter though they have one. It can be very tricky to engage in a verbal quarrel with them as they may abuse you in the local language and you may not even understand it. To avoid any unpleasant experiences during your Kerala packages from Delhi, you can ask the auto guy for an estimated rate before the ride. If you are comfortable with it, take the ride or else drop him and talk to another one. The buses here have a fixed rate ticket system and hence you will not have any trouble. In fact, it will turn out to be much cheaper than an auto ride. For a pleasant travel experience ask your hotel travel desk for more information on Kerala’s public transport system. A local help will be worth more than the information you get online!

clb7550

You can reach the malls of Kochi by bus. But make sure you don’t purchase too much or else, you will have to take an auto back to your hotel. The most popular malls here are around 10 kilometres away from the city and hence be careful about how much you purchase. In Kochi city, you can roam around the place walking. It will be a Nice experience in your honeymoon packages to Kerala if you can withstand the dust and the heat on the road. You can view the sunset from the Marine Drive’s Rainbow Bridge which offers a stunning view of the Kochi backwaters, shipyard and also you can enjoy the beautiful sunset there. Right opposite to it is the Broadway which made Kochi, the economic hub of Kerala. You can take a private bus to Fort Kochi and get down at the last stop. There you can see the sea view and the sunset. The streets of Fort Kochi have some beautiful shops where antique sculptures and paintings are sold. You can also buy some spices from here. Beware; you may not get regular buses plying between the city and the suburbs after a certain time. From Fort Kochi, take a bus to Mattancheri where you can take a walking tour of the Dutch Palace, Mattancheri Palace and the museum. You can also visit the churches and temples here that were built many centuries back. These places are usually visited by the tourists on honeymoon packages to Kerala.

Day 2 Visiting Tripunithura Hill Palace and Cherai Beach

Tripunithura used to be Kochi kingdom’s capital. The royal palace has been converted into an archaeological and heritage museum now which is a major attraction for the tourists on Kerala honeymoon packages. The museum has an amazing collection of antiques and archaeological findings from the nearby locations. There’s a deer park in the palace premises which is an interesting attraction for the children who visit the museum on picnics and educational tours from the schools nearby. The museum will require 3 to 4 hours of walking to see in full. You can take a bus back to your hotel and have your lunch. After lunch, you can straightaway catch a bus to Cherai and visit the beautiful beach in your Kerala honeymoon packages from Delhi. You can reach the beach in many ways. You can Take the route of the beautiful Goshree bridges across the Kochi backwaters near the Marine drive which is the nearest place from where you can take a bus to Cherai. Or else you can take a bus to North Paravoor and get another bus to Cherai beach from there. The Paravoor – Cherai route is very beautiful with paddy fields, backwaters and water canals on both sides of the road. The water canals will have a lot of Chinese fishing nets which are lighted in the evenings to attract fishes. This will be am amazing site to see during your Kerala tour packages from Delhi as such nets are rarely seen in other parts of India. This beach is a beautiful place with white sands and some refreshment counters nearby. You can sit on the rock boulders put there as a safety measure for the fishermen families settled nearby. The coconut groves and trees nearby will give you enough shade from the early evening sun. The sunset there is beautiful. There’s a coastal road too that takes you all the way to Kochi from here. You can also enjoy boating in the backwaters nearby. The seafood served in the resorts here tastes truly awesome. Though there are buses back to Paravoor from here, even if you miss a bus, you can take an auto or even walk to the nearby Cherai Junction from where you will get a bus back to Paravoor or Kochi.

Day 3 Muziris Heritage tour with Backwater Cruise

 1373349580189image

This is a new route included recently in tour packages for Kerala honeymoon from Delhi. The Muziris port near North Paravoor used to be the biggest port in South India during the ancient days when only Barter system of trade was followed. This used to be a place where travellers and traders from Persia, Egypt, Greece, Japan, Europe, China and many other ancient countries used to buy the exotic spices from Kerala for gold, silver, precious stones and colourful clothes made of silk and wool. A strong earthquake destroyed this rich port after which the traders moved to the Kochi port. Recent excavations in the area have unearthed utensils and remains of this old port which are now preserved in the Muziris Heritage museum at Chendamangalam. This was recently inaugurated by the honourable President of India. You can now enjoy a backwater cruise through the backwaters of Chendamangalam and North Paravoor and see some of the museums and important places of the Muziris Heritage in your cheap honeymoon packages for Kerala. The Muziris Paliam palace museum has a collection of many rare utensils and coins. The palace itself is a beautiful reminder of the architecture that combines the French and British styles along with the traditional Kerala style of woodwork and Naalukettu. You can reach North Paravoor by bus and take another bus to Chendamangalam which is hardly 6 kilometres from the town or take an auto.
