That Exciting Trip to Parunthumpara in Kerala: A Travelogue from Delhi

Those panoramic views of the verdant hills from that viewpoint of Parunthumpara indeed calmed us from our everyday stressful lives. This beautiful hilltop is located to the Eastern point of Idukki district in Kerala. We were travelling from Delhi to all the way down to Kerala, with the hope of spending all day long by any of their serene backwaters, for which they are known worldwide. However, fate brought us here and we would never regret that instead, we feel blessed to have reached this place. We got to see the verdant hills and the lush greenery of the state that are not much known to the outside world.

We started from our hometown in Delhi on sunny Sunday morning, as our whole team got gathered at the Airport. Our boss Mr Sharmaji as always was already present there and was busy talking with the tour executive of the tour operators with whom we were to travel up to Kerala. Moreover, they were our company’s former client. We had always maintained a good relationship even after the joint business continuously for some years. And when our team planned for such a trip this year, we had nothing else in our thoughts, but the Kerala based Dream Holidays and then their cool tour packages. It was them who suggested the hills instead of the backwaters for which we were a bit confused and ignorant initially. Nevertheless, I was personally pretty much sure that they would pick anyhow the best for us, and not any random or merely any cheap options.

After 3 and a half-hour of flying, we reached at the Cochin International Airport on a late afternoon. The climate there was hot, not humid as in Delhi, I felt so. We later went to cabs waiting there, around 3 of them parked outside the building. On our journey to Kuttikanam, where we were to stay for our trip, our driver pulled over at a place called Muvattupuzha for having that wholesome lunch. All of us agreed to order the traditional Kerala meal that is served in the long banana leaves. We were really surprised to spot so many curries served along with boiled rice, even more than we find in thaali meals. Here the age-old sayings went absolutely wrong, as the quality of the stuff was not affected by their mouth-watery taste. Each of them savoured indeed differently, whether it is the Sambhar, Beetroot Kichhdi or Pullissery. After satisfying both our heart and tummies, we continued our journey.

The lush greenery of the state was revealing more to us, as we were approaching our destination. Just before covering the hairpin curve, we again stopped near a waterfall. It was really beautiful and very startling to sight such a charming sight right at the turning of a highway. They were called Valanjangaanam. The water flowing was sumptuous as it was during the end of a rainy season. We got down from the car and took many photos in front of them. Later our cab stopped at a hill station called Kuttikanam. By the time we reached the resort, it was already evening. The resort that we stayed in was on the top of a hill. So the temperatures were already chilly even before the night. We were a bit exhausted after the long journey, so we ordered for a light dinner and after that dozed off quickly.

That chilling effect lasted up to the next early morning, so we did not even felt like waking up. But with the thrill of visiting new places and refreshing sights, we got ready immediately and travelled to the major destination of our tour, which was Parunthumpara. It took almost 45 minutes to arrive at that hilltop. Up to many a distance, there was nothing much, other than the little grown buses and some curvy roads. One of the ends of the hilltop was barricaded and there were some adorable shelters built at definite points. It was beyond these barricades that all the stuff was happening. Once all were clasped to those metal fencing, we got to witness that yet another beautiful side of Kerala. Those early morning rays were looking magical on this hilltop. A few meters below those barricades, we saw some people descending the hill. On looking further, we saw an unusually shaped cliff. Then the tour guide was replying to somebody from our team’s query that the name of this enchanting hilltop was given by the unique shape of that particular cliff. He said that in Malayalam, ‘Parunthu’ means eagle. On observing keenly, we would get to know that they are in the shape of an eagle’s head. Out of that excitement, some of us followed behind the people who were heading to that cliff. Our guide asked us to be very careful, as they are precariously perched on this side of the hill. He was right, it was indeed risky to even stand there steadily and click pictures. But it was more mesmerizing to behold at all those green hills nearby is yet another angle. Moreover, some of the screeching voices shouted out loudly were returned as echoes. Also, climbing back to the shelter was a bit strenuous. So after climbing up, we refreshed ourselves by sipping a diluted and spicy version of curd called ‘sambharam’ along with gooseberries and carrots dipped in salty juices. All of them were sold in fairly a cheap price.

After having lunch from a roadside restaurant, we headed to the next destination included in the packages, which was Panchalimedu. By that time, the sunny climate was gradually turning out to be a cloudy one. The curvy roads were now veiled under heavy misty. The vehicles coming from the opposite side were slowly approaching with their yellow lights on. Everything around us was looking heavenly then. Right from the moment, we arrived at the spot, we could experience the aesthetic beauty of this location planted with beautiful green lawns. And there were a few crosses erected at some definite intervals. The shelter here was also constructed very artistically. After spending a good amount of time we returned to our places.

We had lots of fun and excitement by this trip, for which we would always be thankful to our company and Dream Holidays for organizing them so systematically.

An Enticing Honeymoon Trip to Athirappilly in Kerala: Travelogue by a Thrilled Delhiite

Can Athirappilly Waterfalls be called as the Niagara of India?? I lost this bet with my wife and as a punishment, for which I had agreed to take her to another trip to Kerala by the end of this year. Sounds weird, right? Well, such a mishap had happened to me on our honeymoon trip to Athirappilly in Kerala. Before our visit to the place, I was of the strong belief that such a waterfall cannot be ever compared with that of the magnificence of the massive Niagara Waterfalls in the US. But I was wrong.

kerala tour packages from delhi

Again, such an idea of choosing Kerala as our Honeymoon destination was put forward by my lovely wife. Initially, she was showing me the pictures of the backwaters of Kerala in Alleppey and Kochi. As a person who was born and brought up in Delhithese serene water bodies did attract my attention right from the very first impression. Moreover, in the tour packages based in Kerala revealed the same kind of stimulating environments. But due to some technical issues faced by the lake view resort that we thought of staying, we had to change our plans. Other than that, the tour company that we had contacted overwhelmed us informing that they had primed a super cool package based in Athirappilly, which also provides the opportunity of living in a Tree House.

cheap and best kerala tour packages

As every other fun-loving couple, this whole idea seemed very exciting. What can be more romantic than visiting a waterfall in either a gloomy sky or just before a shower? So without waiting much, we packed our bags and headed to the place by the onset of monsoon in Kerala. As it was in the month of June, the monsoon had not yet hit Delhi and other northern parts we could board a flight to Kerala much effortlessly. However, when we reached the nearest air station of Cochin International Airport, the sky was a bit gloomy. Once we got into the cab sent by our tour company, she was continuously filming the clean and beautiful nature of Kerala just like any other thrilled kid.

With a journey sparing 1 and half hours travel, we reached a classy resort in Chalakudy, which is on the way to Athirappilly. The tour guide accompanying us seemed to be a polite and friendly guy as he was speaking to the room guy in their regional language. And I had guessed it that the friendly talk would be about taking good care of us. So once checking-in, we relaxed a bit in the spacious room allotted to us. When it was time for dinner, we had a wholesome meal in our room itself. It was a simple menu comprising or Kerala Pathiri (as what they called in their regional language) and Chicken Roast. But my wife had a different choice of vegetarian fried rice (she is a bit particular of not opting anything non-vegetarian food, while she is out of home). To frank, I had never tasted anything as spicy and delicious recipe in my whole life. Once finishing our hearty dinner, we went for a night strolling in the elegantly maintained garden of the resort.

Moreover, the exotic stay in the tree house was what we terribly waited for. So on the very next day, our tour guide Arun was waiting for us in the reception of the resort. He said that we had to check out from this place and must shift to the tree house set in Athirappilly. After a few pleasant conversations with the manager of the resort, (he too was a Delhiite, so we could connect easily), we got to know that the tree house set aside for us was owned and maintained by the same resort that we stayed in for the night. Along with Arun, we got into the cab and headed to our main travel destination, the ever-exciting Athirappillly. Mr.Arun made us more knowledgeable about the location of Athirappilly. He said that it is en route to Valparai, which is in the state of Tamil Nadu and travelling at late night is strictly prohibited with concern to the encounter of wild animals.

kerala honeymoon packages with airfare

We got down at the place where our tree house was placed, which is almost at a distance of 3 km from the waterfalls. Right from its very first view of the eco-friendly structure. I appreciated ourselves that this was one of the best decisions we had ever taken on our honeymoon in Kerala. We just kept our luggage there and rushed back to the cab that would take us straight to the main entrance of the Athirapally waterfalls. Arun was so kind to buy us entry tickets from the counter, as the inclusion of such a service was not even mentioned in any of the tour packages. Also, my wife was of the opinion that the fares were fairly cheap especially for witnessing such a spectacular sight in our romantic and momentous tour to this part of Kerala.

The walk across amid the lush green forest once covering the artistically set stone-paved pathways was indeed daring, as we got to meet several uprooted trees and thick bushes. On our downhill trek, I had to take my ‘not-so-heavy’ wife (she warned me to address so) on my hands, as she was unable to walk otherwise. Even before that trek downwards, we could find short glimpses of the majestic waterfalls at the finishing points of the bamboo paths. She was even more excited when we were beginning to overhear the roar of hurriedly cascading waters. Once we were right in front of the magnificent waterfalls, both of us were in high felicity. The water droplets splashing from the falls were indeed moistening our faces and hands, such was the vigour of the flowing waters. However, the more romantic part was beholding a mythical rainbow formed instantly when the sun shone.

Our honeymoon was complete when we had a candlelight dinner right up in the tree house on our ever romantic night after the trekking time. Thank you Dream Holidays for making our trip so special!

UNEXPLORED OFFBEAT DESTINATIONS IN KERALA

There will be no one in the world who doesn’t like to hang out with their friends and share all their bitter and sweet experiences of their life. There may be several reasons like busy schedules, family problems, lack of time etc which pull the people from hangouts. I personally believe people should find out the time and live their own lives in the way they wanted. Only if we are ready to empty our stressed mind, we could welcome new happy moments. For making our mind free and collecting good memories, nature is the best place. I have seen many people mainly from metro cities in the northern parts of India who are living their lives under severe pressure from their superiors and peers. They have no other place than reputed shopping malls and recreational centres to refresh themselves. People of Delhi are blessed with all kinds of luxuries and facilities but they lack one most important thing that is the peace of mind. They have no time to listen to, what their mind speaks and what it desires. Understanding the limitations of people of Delhi, Dream holidays have organised an exciting Kerala tour. The packages are at an affordable rate and comprise offbeat destinations in the state. As these places assure complete privacy and calmness. I like to mention a few of the least visited places in the state which is included in the package too.

CHEMBRA PEAK – HIGHEST PEAK
